Hypnotherapy is often used to change all kinds of behaviors, including Eating Disorders because of the brain&#039;s ability to make different synaptic connections.  Going from the obsession to food to a relaxed focus on some other goal that the ED sufferer wants to accomplish is typically what happens during recovery.  

One thing I will add is that ED is not a &quot;thing&quot; that&#039;s separate from the person.  It&#039;s very much part of the person and personality.  The ED is a label for a compulsion the body has to feed itself food as a means of survival.  Obviously what it really wants is not food, but a whole host of other things like, love, acceptance, validation, security, freedom, etc.  It&#039;s not about food.</description>
